What strip size is right for my application?
Which size of strip is right for my application?
We offer many different sizes of strips but the most common are:
- 100mm x 2mm
- 200mm x 2mm
- 300mm x 3mm
- 400mm x 4mm
The basic rule that we use is that as the height of the door opening increases, so should the size of the strip we are using to seal off the doorway. For door openings below 200mm, it makes sense to use a more narrow, lightweight strip to make it easier to pass through for pedestrian traffic. For taller door openings, wider, thicker, heavier strips tend to do a better job of sealing off the doorway.
Basic guidelines
While all applications are different, we find that our customers usually get good results when following these guidelines:
- For door openings less than 2400mm high, 100mm x 1.5mm and 150mm x 2mm strips offer the best ease of entry for pedestrian traffic.
- For door openings up to 3000mm high, 200mm x 2mm strips provide the right balance between ease of entry and sealing the doorway from airflow.
- For door openings up to 4000mm, 300mm x 3mm strips add 50% more thickness and weight, which helps to resist movement.
- For door openings over 4500 feet high, 400mm x 4mm strips do the best job of hanging firmly in the doorway, to prevent airflow.
When choosing a PVC strip door, choosing the right strip size can make a big difference in the performance of the door. Other conditions, like the amount of wind or air movement and the percentage of strip overlap can also play an important role.
